DENVER - University of Denver head men's basketball coach Jeff Wulbrun announced the recipients of two annual awards ahead of the program's fall workouts that begin later this week.
The ISAID Award is given to the student-athlete that embodies and reflects the program's core values on a daily basis; Integrity, Selflessness, Accountability, Investment & Discipline. At Sunday's team meeting, this year's recipient was Ben Bowen.
The Floyd M. Theard Memorial Award is given to the student-athlete who best displays the qualities of leadership, scholarship and sportsmanship that had been demonstrated by Coach Theard during his lifetime. Yesterday's recipient was Isaiah Addo-Ankrah.
"As a program we are extremely proud of our culture and the young men who represent us," Wulbrun said. "We talk about it and teach to it every day, and our student-athletes work hard to be great ambassadors to DU and chase excellence in all their endeavors. The ISAID Award and the Floyd Theard Memorial Award represent elite level representation of these foundational components of our program."
The 2023-24 Pioneers:
2022-23 Summit League All-Newcomer Team pick Tommy Bruner returns as the leading scorer for the Pioneers, averaging 15.9 point, 4.2 assists and 2.8 boards a year ago. Touko Tainamo was the third of five Pioneers that averaged double figures last season, pouring in 10.6 points and pulling in 6.4 rebounds per game. Denver brings seven newcomers to the program heading into the 2023-24 season, including a pair of true freshmen.
In addition to its attendance, Denver will look to continue its climb in wins under Wulbrun, taking the program from two wins the season before his arrival to 11 in his first campaign and 15 in the 2022-23 slate.
