DU Men’s Tennis Begins 2024 Dual Season in Indiana

Denver to play against Western Michigan, at Purdue on Saturday, Sunday

DENVER – The University of Denver men's tennis team will begin dual match play with two road matches on January 27-28.
 
DU first plays a neutral-site match against Western Michigan on Saturday, January 27, at 2 p.m. ET/12 p.m. MT before taking on host Purdue on Sunday, January 28, at 12 p.m. ET/10 a.m. MT.
 
Season Preview:
Denver enters 2024 as the preseason favorite in the Summit League after winning the regular-season title in 2023.
 
Seven Pioneers return from last season's roster including 2023 Summit League Player of the Year, senior Nicolas Herrero Cuesta and 2023 Summit League Newcomer of the Year, junior Daniel Sancho Arbizu. Graduate student Anish Sriniketh is back for his sixth year of eligibility, and seniors Charlie Miller and Peter Sallay are also back in 2024.
 
Two newcomers join the roster in junior transfer Rikuto Yamaguchi and graduate transfer Marvin Schaber.
 
Last Time Out:
Denver wrapped up its fall season at the LMU Invitational with six wins in seven combined matches against LMU and Utah on November 12.
 
Sancho Arbizu represented Denver at the 2023 ITA National Fall Championships after earning a spot in the tournament by way of his appearance in the singles final of the ITA Mountain Regional.
 
Last season, Denver captured its fourth-straight Summit League regular-season title but fell in the championship round of the league tournament.
 
Series History:
Western Michigan: This will be the first meeting between Denver and Western Michigan.
 
Purdue: DU holds a 3-2 record against Purdue in its Division I history, most recently capturing a 7-0 sweep in Denver on March 12, 2023. The teams have only met once previously at Purdue, a 5-2 DU win on March 2, 2012.
 
Up Next:
The University of Denver men's tennis team hosts its first two home matches of the season when it welcomes Utah on Friday, February 2, and UTSA on Sunday, February 4. The matches are set for 5 p.m. MT and 1 p.m. MT, respectively, at Denver Tennis Park.
