DENVER – Fifth-year guard Tommy Bruner poured in a DU DI-modern-era-record 49 points before getting the game-winning steal that eventually landed in the hands of Isaiah Addo-Ankrah for the game-winning three to lead the University of Denver men's basketball program to a 111-110 double-overtime victory over South Dakota on Thursday night inside Hamilton Gymnasium.
The Pioneers (13-8, 4-2) had four players score in double figures, led by Bruner, who had 49 points, eight assists and three steals. Touko Tainamo added a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds, and Addo-Ankrah helped out with 12 points.
The Denver offense made hay from beyond the arc, making 14 threes on 32 attempts. Bruner hit five treys for the Pioneers in the contest.
Denver forced 17 South Dakota turnovers while committing 11 themselves in Thursday's game. The Pioneers turned those takeaways into nine points on the other end of the floor. Bruner's three steals led the way for Denver.

- Bruner passed B.J. Pratt and Jase Townsend on the single-season scoring chart and sits fourth.
- Bruner drew 11 South Dakota fouls in the contest.
Isaiah Addo-Ankrah finished with 12 points on four made triples.
- Addo-Ankrah hit the game-winning triple with 0.7 seconds to play.
- The three-pointer was his second game-winning three of the year and the fourth game-winning shot overall in the Jeff Wulbrun era.
Touko Tainamo finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds.
- Tainamo's double-double was his sixth of the season and the 12th of his career.
- Tainamo finished in double figures for the 10th-straight game, the 18th time this season and the 47th time in his career.
- Tainamo finished with double digit rebounds for the sixth time this season and the 17th time in his career.
- Tainamo passed Nate Rohnert for fifth on Denver's Division I rebound list.
Isaiah Carr finished with 12 points and 3 blocks.
- Carr finished in double figures for the fourth time this season (and of his career).
- Carr had 3+ blocks for the second-straight game, the seventh time this season and the eighth time in his career.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After playing to a 27-27 tie, Denver went on a 5-0 run with 6:58 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Bruner to take a 32-27 lead. The Pioneers then lost some of that lead but still entered halftime with a 41-40 advantage. Denver did most of its first-half damage in the paint, scoring 26 of its 41 points close to the basket.
South Dakota proceeded to take a 79-73 lead before Denver went on an 8-0 run to seize an 81-79 lead with 30 seconds to go in regulation. The Coyotes then fought back to even things up at 81-81 and send the game to overtime. Denver made the most of five offensive rebounds to tack on seven second chance points out of 40 total in the period.
South Dakota then snagged a 98-96 advantage with 4:22 left in the second overtime before Denver responded by going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Jaxon Brenchley's three. With Denver down two in the final seconds of double overtime, Bruner came up with a steal, fed it to Tyson Garff who hit Addo-Ankrah for the game-winning three from the left wing.
