Ludlow played for the Pioneers from 1972-74

DENVER – The University of Denver men's basketball program mourns the loss of two-season student-athlete James "Jim" Ludlow, who passed away earlier this month.

Ludlow played for the Pioneers in the 1972-73 and the 1973-74 seasons, helping Denver to a 28-24 record during that span under head coach Al Harden.

The Danville, Illinois, native went on to graduate from the University of Denver in 1975.

Excerpt from His Obituary:
James (Jim) Roebuck Ludlow was born August 8, 1953, in Danville, IL, and passed away at home on January 20, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. He married the love of his life, Barbara Lois Hoagland Ludlow, on July 28, 1973.

Jim grew up in the small town of Covington, Ind., and graduated from Covington High School in 1971. He loved the game of basketball and still holds several records at CHS, including the most free throws (15) in a game, and the most free throws (113) and rebounds (394) in a single season. Following high school, Jim received a full basketball scholarship to the University of Denver, where he graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. He earned his Master of Religious Education in 1999 from Andersonville Baptist Seminary.

Jim worked in the insurance industry for over 42 years and retired on January 1, 2022. He began coaching high school sports in the early 1980s, and his coaching career spanned five decades. He coached boys' basketball at Cape Fear Academy and United Faith Christian Academy, Upwards Basketball at Mineral Springs UMC, football and girls' basketball at Parkwood High School, girls' basketball at Nation Ford High School, Catawba Ridge High School, and Rock Hill High School and women's basketball at Mars Hill University. In 2022, Jim was an assistant coach at Rock Hill High School when they won the South Carolina High School League 5A Girls Basketball Championship.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, seven children; David Ludlow (Jennifer), Jaimie Sweem (David), Bekah Ludlow Hart (Blake), Sarah McGimsey (Matthew), Jonathan Ludlow (Carrie), Joey Ludlow, and Hannah Ludlow, as well as eighteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, his sister Marlene Ludlow and his brother Bill Ludlow (Jan), seven nieces and nephews and his black lab Misty Mae Ludlow.
