Denver captured its second Summit League win of the season with a 3-1 victory over St. Thomas at home on Thursday night. Redshirt sophomore
Hannah Tate opened the scoring with the second goal of her career before senior
Ella Frost netted the eventual game winner just over four minutes later to give DU a 2-0 lead at half.
St. Thomas pulled within one goal and had a look at an equalizer on a penalty kick, but DU sophomore
Molly Wissman saved the attempt and swung momentum back in Denver's favor. Sophomore
Michaela McGowan then reclaimed a two-goal DU lead with her third of the season in the 85
th minute.
QUICK HITS:
- Sunday's match will kickoff at 12 p.m. MT – an hour earlier than normal for DU home matches on Sundays.
- Denver will honor its 10 fourth-year seniors as part of its post-match Senior Day ceremony.
- DU's senior class has accounted for three Summit League regular-season titles so far and combined for seven All-Summit League Team honors.
- They enter Sunday with a 41-17-14 record in their four years at DU, which includes a 23-2-4 record in League play and 24-7-7 overall at University of Denver Soccer Stadium.
- Frost's 31st-minute goal against UST gave her sole possession of the team lead in goals (5) and game winners (3) in 2024.
- M. McGowan retook the DU lead in total points (13) and extended her lead in total assists (7).
- Wissman's saved PK against St. Thomas was the second of her career after doing so at North Dakota State on October 19, 2023.
- With her assist on Thursday night, M. McGowan returned to the top 10 nationally for total assists this season (7). She is also tied for No. 22 in the country in assists per game (.500).
- She is the first Pioneer to log at least seven assists in a season since Natalie Beckman and Sami Feller had 18 and 11, respectively, in 2021.
SCOUTING THE BISON:
NDSU sat atop the Summit League table after Thursday night's slate of matches following the Bison's 2-1 win over Oral Roberts. ORU scored just five and a half minutes into the second half to lead 1-0 before North Dakota State scored twice consecutively. NDSU's goal leader Morga Russman scored her sixth of the year with her 83
rd-minute winner.
Denver leads the head-to-head record against North Dakota State, 12-2-1, and enters Sunday with a 6-1-0 record at home against the Bison. NDSU claimed a narrow 1-0 win at home the last time the teams met (October 19, 2023), ending a streak of six matches in which Denver did not concede a goal to the Bison.
