Denver falls, 0-1, on Sunday for third consecutive one-goal decision to begin year
EVANSTON, Illinois – The University of Denver women's soccer team (0-3-0, 0-0-0 WCC) wrapped up a three-match road trip to begin the 2026 season with a 0-1 loss to Northwestern at Martin Stadium on Sunday evening.
The match's only goal came in the 35th minute, resulting from a Northwestern attack down the right side of the pitch and finished by NU's Alex Fallon.

31' | From in front of the Denver bench, R. Morgan served the ball up into the 18-yard box. It bounced around before falling to LaPiano's feet just outside the area, but her shot went well over the crossbar.
35' | NU's Elle Phillips started a Wildcat attack down the right side of the pitch from midfield, finding Alex Fallon, whose run resulted in a goal from the right edge of Garnsey's box.

- With Sunday's final, all three of Denver's results to begin 2026 have been determined by one goal.
- It marked jus the third time in DU's NCAA Division I history but the second time in the last three seasons that DU started a year with three one-goal decisions.
- Northwestern's goal in the 35th minute was the first conceded by DU in the first half so far this season.
- For the first time this year, Denver did not concede a second-half goal.
- Denver's backline again proved to be in lock step, drawing Northwestern offside 10 times.
- Through three matches, all three Denver opponents have been called offside at least nine times and have averaged 10 offside calls.
- Denver also continued to rarely be called offside itself, doing so for only the second time during Sunday's match.
- For the third time through the first three matches, a different Pioneer led the team in shot attempts, this time with freshman Reese Morgan doing so with two.
- Fellow freshman Caitlin Staats had the team's only shot on target, which was her first in a collegiate match.
- Among the four DU student-athletes to play the full 90 minutes was junior Rowan LaPiano, who did so for the first time in 2026 and just the second time in her career.
- Freshman Keirra Venson, too, played the entire match, reaching the milestone for the first time in her second NCAA match.
- Sophomore Lucy Garnsey added two more saves, bringing her season total to 10 through her first three NCAA appearances.
- Sophomore Camila Palacios made her first career start, doing so in her 13th career NCAA appearance and her third for Denver.
- DU played with its fewest number of student-athletes in a match thus far, using just four substitutions.
