Denver Women’s Soccer Finishes in Scoreless Draw Against Colorado College

DU earns first result of the season with tie in home opener on Thursday night
DENVER – The University of Denver women's soccer team (0-3-1, 0-0-0 WCC) opened its home schedule with a 0-0 draw against Colorado College at University of Denver Soccer Stadium on Thursday night.
The match was scoreless at the half, though the Tigers had what looked like a 1-0 lead in the 66th minute until the goal was overturned by video review for a handball.
SIGNIFICANT STATS:
12' | Sixth-year Samantha Dreiling took a look from outside the penalty area and was inches away from tucking it under the crossbar until the keeper made fingertip save.
19' | After a Staats attempt curled wide, junior Kit Mooney collected the and put it toward net, only to see it bounce off the near post.
28' | Garnsey's two saves of the half came within seconds of each other with a leaping save to stop the initial attack. She backed it up with a quick drop to her left to stop the shot off the rebound.
30' | A great cross from Staats found senior Kera Nguyen at the left side of the box. The senior's shot narrowly went high and landed on top of the net.
57' | From the edge of the box, Staats tried to find the corner at the far post but sent the shot high and wide.
66' | CC looked to have scored the match's first goal from a corner kick with Tyler Rose kicking it across the line while laying down inside the box. Denver's coaches initiated a video review for a possible handball on the goal scorer. The referee's final decision was that a handball was committed by CC's Rose, overturning the call and returning the score to 0-0.
80' | Denver's sixth corner of the night was its most dangerous with Palacios' service finding Zelazny, but the senior's header narrowly went above the net.
85' | A curling shot from Staats from 20 yards out looked like it might sneak into the back of the net but instead rang off the post.

The University of Denver women's soccer team will play its rescheduled match at Northern Colorado on Sunday, August 30, at 12 p.m. MT. The match was originally scheduled for opening night on August 13 and reached the 20th minute before it was suspended due to weather and unable to resume due to ongoing weather and field conditions. The score was 0-0 at the time of suspension.
DU then returns to University of Denver Soccer Stadium for its only match of the first week of September to host Montana on Sunday, September 6, at 1 p.m. MT.
