Pioneers Drop Match to St. Thomas

SAINT PAUL, MN --The Denver volleyball team dropped a four-set match to St. Thomas on Thursday in Saint Paul.

The loss dropped Denver's record to 9-12 overall and 4-7 in Summit play.

Cassie Davis finished with 13 kills on the day to lead the Pioneers attack. DU got 23 digs from Alayna Finucan along with five blocks from Kate Perryman and Molly Mirabelli to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | An impressive defensive effort didn't cut it as the Pioneers lost the first set 25-22. Denver racked up eight blocks in the set loss.

SET 2 | Denver lost set two 25-22, digging a 2-0 deficit in the match. Despite a strong serving performance, the Pioneers fell in the set. Denver notched five aces in the set loss.

SET 3 | After dropping the opening two sets, Denver rallied to take the third set and make it a 2-1 match. The Pioneers won the set 25-17 powered by a strong performance on the attacking end. Denver registered a .371 attack percentage with 15 kills in the set win. The Pioneers ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. The Denver offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

SET 4 | Denver couldn't keep the momentum and fell in set four 25-11 to drop the match. The Pioneers fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before losing the set.
