Pioneers secure 4-set win over NDSU in Summit Quarters

KANSAS CITY, Mo. --The Denver volleyball team knocked off the North Dakota State Bison 3-1 (30-28, 19-25, 26-24, 25-23) Sunday at Swinney Center.

The Summit League Quarterfinal win improved the Pioneers' overall record to 13-14 on the season.

The Pioneers offense was paced by Cassie Davis, who finished with 14 kills on the day. Ava Reynolds added 11 and Molly Mirabelli chipped in with 10 as part of balanced Denver attack. got 16 digs from Alayna Finucan to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Pioneers persevered in a back-and-forth first set to win 30-28 in a stanza that featured seven lead changes and was tied 20 times. Neither team led by more than three points in the match. The Pioneers opening set win came in a stanza where 18 of their 30 points came via the kill.

SET 2 | Denver then dropped the second set 25-19, evening things at a set each. Denver trailed by as many as eight points as North Dakota State grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 in a set that was tied up just once before the Bison took over the lead.

SET 3 | Denver then got back on the winning track, emerging victorious in set three and taking a two sets to one lead in the match. The Pioneers grabbed control of the set early when the score was 2-1 and never trailed to win 26-24. Denver led by eight points at 15-7 before closing out the stanza.

SET 4 | Denver kept the momentum going, finishing off the match with a 25-23 fourth-set victory. The Pioneers took the lead for good at 22-21 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Pioneers took over in the second half of the stanza.
