Denver Drops Middle Game of MTE to CSUN

The Pioneers will close out the Montana MTE with Utah Tech Tuesday at 2 p.m. MT

MISSOULA, Mont. – The University of Denver men's basketball program dropped an 89-60 contest to Cal State Northridge in both teams' second game of the Stew Morrill Classic on Monday afternoon inside Dahlberg Arena.

The Pioneers (3-4) had two players score in double figures, led by Nicholas Shogbonyo, who had 15 points. Pedro Lopez-Sanvicente tacked on 10 points and two blocks off of the bench and DeAndre Craig added eight points and two steals.

Denver's offense was very productive from deep, knocking down 10 threes on 30 attempts.

NOTES:

  • Denver made 7 three-pointers in the first half, its most in a single half this season.
  • The Pioneers finished with 10+ triples made in the game for the first time this season.
  • Nicholas Shogbonyo finished with 15 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists.
  • Shogbonyo finished in double figures for the fourth-straight game and the fifth time in his early DU career.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Denver struggled out of the gate, falling behind 48-33 heading into halftime.

CSU Northridge kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 66-40 advantage before Denver went on a 5-0 run to shrink the deficit to 66-45 with 11:35 to go in the contest. CSU Northridge responded and outscored the Pioneers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 89-60. Denver got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 15 of its 27 total points.
