DENVER – The No.1 University of Denver hockey team beat the Lindenwood Lions 4-1 on Saturday night at Magness Arena to wrap up the program's 75th Anniversary Weekend.
DU swept the non-conference weekend series against LU (2-7-1) after also winning by a 4-1 score on Friday. The Pioneers improved to 10-0-0 on the season, setting a program record for the longest winning streak to begin a campaign. The previous mark of nine straight victories to start a season came in 2001-02.
Sophomore
Sam Harris scored two goals in the third period and netted the game-winning tally with 14:41 left. He now takes over the team and national lead in goals with nine in nine games played.
Juniors

Aidan Thompson also scored for Denver. Senior goaltender
Matt Davis secured the win by saving 17 out of 18 shots sent his way.
As part of its 75th Anniversary celebration, Denver honored approximately 150 former players on the ice in an extended first intermission. The current Pioneer players and staff remained on the bench during the recognition, which included the alumni presenting the program's NCAA-record 10 national championship trophies to the sold-out crowd of 6,582.
Lorenz opened the scoring with his second goal of the series at 11:11 of the first period. Sophomore
Eric Pohlkamp received the assist and extended his career-long point streak to nine games.
Lindenwood tied the score in the middle period with a goal from Tyler Loughman, but Harris put the Pioneers back in front with a tip-in off a shot by
Cale Ashcroft 5:18 into the final stanza.
Harris advanced the score for Denver to 3-1 less than six minutes later off a pass from freshman
James Reeder, who extended his point streak to six straight contents. Thompson recorded his eighth goal of the season with 2:20 left in the game to put DU into a comfortable position on the scoreboard.
Senior captain
Carter King played in his 125th career game with the Pios and had an assist on Thompson's tally.
Lindenwood goalie Owen Bartoszkiewicz saved 19-of-23 shots in the loss.

QUOTABLES
Richard and Kitzia Goodman Hockey Head Coach David Carle
On the 75th Anniversary Weekend: "I think it's great. First intermission we honor all of them (alumni), and the pregame reception and the alumni game earlier today was excellent, and so cool to see them, you know, running through the locker room, as well with their families and all of that. I think for us, we really try and reflect upon their history a lot. For our guys, to see that, it's one of the cooler moments they'll have in their time here is being a part of that first-period intermission ceremony."
On the team in the third period: "I think we didn't get frustrated, I didn't think. We had a really good second period. Obviously, we didn't get rewarded. We were up 1-0 in the second and then we ended the period 1-1. That's our first time where we've been really challenged, like going into the third, where we don't have a lead or we weren't getting rewarded. So, for us, like mentally just sticking with our gameplan and being mature about it. I thought that was really good. We got three goals and then pulled away to make it a comfortable victory on the scoreboard."
Sophomore Forward Sam Harris
On the 75th anniversary ceremony: "It was real special seeing the guys that came before us who were here now. The rich tradition this program has is really special to see"
On facing North Dakota next weekend: "It's going to be a tough weekend. It's going to be a big test for our group, but I'm looking forward to it and just going to play harder than them."
On the team's success during the 10-game win streak: "Sticking true to our process, working hard, coming into the rink with a grit attitude every day. Leaning on each other when we need help and anything like that, like younger guys coming up to the older guys and everybody's communicating, so it's been a really good culture here."
