DENVER – Denver Pioneers hockey junior
Aidan Thompson has been named the NCHC Player of the Month for November, the National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced on Tuesday.
Thompson led all players in the conference with 11 points and tied for first with six goals. In addition to his five assists, he scored three times on the power play, had four penalty minutes and registered plus-2 rating in eight games.
The forward recorded points in each of Denver's contests in November, helping the program to a 6-2-0 record. He tallied multiple points in two of the outings, registering two goals and one assist on Nov. 2 at Yale and had a goal and an assist on Nov. 15 at North Dakota. He scored in three straight games from Nov. 9-16 and tallied five goals in a five-game stretch from Nov. 2-16.
Thompson ranks second in the country in points (22) behind linemate
Jack Devine and is tied for third in the NCAA with 10 goals—one shy of matching his career high of 11 set last season. He has registered at least a point in each of the 14 games in 2024-25 for a career-long streak. It is the longest season-opening point streak by a Pioneer in the last 10 years (since 2015-16)—surpassing the previous long of 11 contests by
Henrik Borgstrom to begin the 2017-18 campaign—and is tied for the second-longest by a DU player in the last 20 years.
Bobby Brink also had a run of 14 straight outings from Dec. 31, 2021-Feb. 19, 2022, and only
Danton Heinen's 18-game point streak from Jan. 22-March 27, 2016 is longer than Thompson's current stretch.
The longest point streak in the NCAA last season was 18 games by a pair of Boston College players: Gabe Perreault (Dec. 1-March 23) and Will Smith (Dec. 1-March 1).
This is Thompson's first career monthly honor. The Fort Collins, Colorado, native picked up his first NCHC Forward of the Week award earlier in the month as well on Nov. 4.
Colorado College's Kaidan Mbereko was named the NCHC Goaltender of the Month and Sacha Boisvert of North Dakota was chosen as Rookie of the Month. Denver's
Matt Davis (goaltender) and
James Reeder (rookie) were also finalists for November awards.
