Tainamo Scores 21 points in Denver's 85-71 loss to UMKC

KANSAS CITY  – Touko Tainamo totaled 21 points, but the Denver men's basketball team fell to Kansas City 85-71 on the road Thursday.

Tainamo added five rebounds and four blocks to his 21-point game to lead the Pioneers (13-10, 4-4). Pedro Lopez-Sanvicente helped out with 11 points, eight rebounds and two blocks and Tommy Bruner chipped in with 12 points and nine assists.

Denver out-rebounded KC 39-30 in Thursday's game, led by nine boards from Jaxon Brenchley.

Touko Tainamo finished with 21 points and 5 rebounds, 4 blocks

  • Tainamo finished in double figures for the 19th time this season and the 48th time in his career.

  • Tainamo's four blocks were a career-high. 

Pedro Lopez-Sanvicente finished with 11 points and 8 rebounds.

  • Lopez-Sanvicente tied his career-high in rebounds in his first 15 minutes of action in the first half with 7.

Tommy Bruner finished with 12 points, 9 assists, 3 rebounds.

  • Bruner finished with 5+ assists for the 11th time this season and the 39th time in his career.

Isaiah Carr finished with 10 points.

  • Carr finished in double figures for the fifth time this season and of his career.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After falling behind 4-2, Denver went on a 6-0 run with 18:13 left in the first half to take an 8-4 lead. The Pioneers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 45-37.

KC kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 64-50 advantage before Denver went on a 5-0 run to shrink the deficit to 64-55 with 9:46 to go in the contest. KC responded and outscored the Pioneers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 85-71.
