EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Denver women's tennis team (6-2, 0-0 Summit) won a back-and-forth battle at Oregon, capturing a 4-3 win on Sunday.
DU won the doubles points, but Oregon leveled the dual at 1-1 before Denver retook the lead and came within one point of the victory at 3-1. The Ducks once again pulled things even at 3-3 before sophomore
Alice Otis clinched the victory for Denver in three sets.
Doubles:
Denver dropped just four games across its two completed doubles matches to win the first point of the day, starting with a 6-1 victory for graduate student
Britt Pursell and junior
Andrea Burguete Beltran at No. 1 doubles – the team's best win so far this season. The sophomore team of
Caroline Driscoll and
Louise Wikander sealed the point for DU with a 6-2 win the No. 2 slot.
Singles:
After dropping the first singles match, Pursell regained the lead for Denver at 2-1 with her third singles win of the season and equaling her fewest games dropped so far.
Burguete Beltran finally got back in the win column after not finishing her last three matches, losing just one game in the opening set before winning the second set in a tiebreak.
Oregon kept the dual close by taking the Nos. 3 and 4 singles to knot things up at 3-3. The only match to go three sets was the final one to conclude: No. 6 singles. DU's Otis took the first set but dropped the second before turning things back around and winning it, 6-2.
