ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 4 Denver Pioneers women's lacrosse team fell to the No. 10 Michigan Wolverines, 8-4, on Saturday afternoon in Ann Arbor.
Julia Gilbert led the Pioneers with two goals as Denver's only multi-goal scorer in the outing. Freshmen
Kyra Obert and
Olivia Ripple also tallied goals in the contest.

Trinity McPherson led the Pioneers in the circle with three draw controls.
Michigan struck first off a free position goal, a trend that would continue for the Wolverines for a remainder of the game, with four of their eight goals coming from free-position shots. Gilbert responded less than a minute later, spinning in to score off a pass from Junior
Lauren Black for the equalizer.
Denver took its only lead of the game after a rocket by Obert at 11:48 in the first.
The Wolverines responded less than a minute later with a goal by Julia Schwabe. Schwabe's goal opened up a 5-0 run for the Blue and held the Denver offense scoreless for nearly 28 minutes of play.
Gilbert broke Denver's scoring drought with six seconds remaining in the first half, but the Pioneers took a three-goal deficit into the locker room.
The Pioneers were held scoreless in the third quarter. Ripple found the net for her third goal of the season with 12:31 remaining to play, but Denver could not overcome the three-goal deficit.
Michigan was led offensively by Annabelle Burke, Julia Schwabe, and Kaylee Dyer who scored a pair of goals apiece. Goalkeeper Erin O'Grady was tremendous in net as she stopped 13 of DU's shots on her.
DU moves to 1-1 to start the season.
