DENVER – The University of Denver men's tennis team (8-0, 0-0 Summit) made its season debut at No. 28 in the ITA Computerized Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point, released on Tuesday.
It is Denver's highest team ITA ranking since the 2010 season when DU appeared as high as No. 25.
DU is riding the second-best start to a dual season in the program's Division I history and is only one win shy of the program record of 9-0 to start the 2020 season. Along the way, Denver has logged wins over No. 51 Boise State (5-2 on February 16), No. 53 Utah State (4-3 on February 11) and No. 72 Idaho State (6-1 on February 8).
In the singles rankings, senior
Nicolas Herrero Cuesta makes the first appearance of his career in the spring ITA rankings, coming in at No. 114 this week. He was ranked No. 111 in the 2023 ITA Preseason National Singles Rankings, issued on September 5.
Herrero Cuesta is a perfect 8-0 in singles on the season so far, playing seven of those matches in the No. 1 slot for Denver. Four of his wins have come in straight sets, and he has already defeated now-No. 43 Sam Sippel from Boise State this year.
The ITA Division I Men's Collegiate Tennis Rankings recognize the top 75 teams (out of 243), 125 singles players and 60 doubles teams at the NCAA Division I level.
The University of Denver men's tennis team heads back on the road for two matches in Wisconsin, first playing Butler in a neutral-site match on Saturday, February 24, before taking on host Wisconsin on Sunday, February 25.
