Denver Falls to SDSU in Lone Game of the Week

The Pioneers will host Kansas City on Senior Night next Thursday at 7 p.m. MT

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The University of Denver men's basketball program dug themselves an early hole, and couldn't come from behind on this occasion, falling 97-70 to South Dakota State on Thursday night in Frost Arena.

The Pioneers (15-14, 6-8) had three players score in double figures, led by Touko Tainamo, who had 22 points. Tommy Bruner added 21 points and two steals and Jaxon Brenchley chipped in as well with 17 points and six rebounds.

  • Bruner finished in double figures for the 31st-straight game and the 101st time in his career.
  • Bruner finished with 20+ points for the second-straight game, the 20th time this season and the 28th time in his career.

Touko Tainamo finished with 22 points.

  • Tainamo finished in double figures for the fifth-straight game, the 24th time this season and the 53rd time in his career.
  • Tainamo finished with 20+ points for the 12th time this season and the 14th time in his career.

Jaxon Brenchley finished with 17 points and 6 rebounds.

  • Brenchley finished in double figures for the 17th time this season and the 21st time in his career.

Ben Bowen finished with 3 steals.

  • Bowen had 3+ steals for the second time in his career.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
After falling behind 30-10, Denver went on a 10-0 run with 11:37 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Tainamo, to narrow its deficit to 30-20. The Pioneers continued to close the gap, cutting the South Dakota State lead to 50-41 by the end of the first half.

Denver could not pull any closer in the second half, losing by a final of 97-70.
