No. 28 DU Men’s Tennis Sweeps Butler, 7-0, in Neutral-Site Match

Denver’s second-consecutive sweep moves DU to a tie for best start in its DI history

MADISON, Wis. – The No. 28-ranked University of Denver men's tennis team (9-0, 0-0 Summit) posted its second-straight sweep and its third on the season, topping Butler in a neutral-site match on Saturday.

With the win, Denver moved to 9-0 on the season, equaling the best start in DU's Division I history, first accomplished in 2020.

Doubles:
DU claimed the doubles point with wins in the Nos. 2 and 3 slots. For the second match in a row, the No. 2 team of graduate student Marvin Schaber and junior Daniel Sancho Arbizu claimed a 6-1 win. Senior Peter Sallay and sophomore Raffaello Papajcik clinched the 1-0 lead for DU with their third win of the season.

Singles:
Senior Charlie Miller dropped just two games in his No. 6 singles win, his second-best result so far this season, with matching 6-1 sets. Sallay, too, had a 6-1 second set following his 6-3 win in the first set, which put DU up, 3-0, and within a point of the win.

Sancho Arbizu clinched the dual for Denver with his third-consecutive straight-sets win to keep his undefeated start in singles going. Papajcik won his third singles match in a row and his second of the year at No. 5 singles, capturing the 10-point match tiebreak, 10-4.

Schaber improved to 6-1 at No. 3 singles and 7-1 overall on the season with his sixth win in straight sets. No. 114-ranked senior Nicolas Herrero Cuesta made it two DU singles players with perfect 9-0 starts to the season, doing so in three sets and capturing the seventh and final DU point on the day.
