Nine Different Pioneers Scored in 18-8 Win Over San Diego State

The Pioneers close out the three-game homestand against [4] Maryland next weekend.

DENVER - The [10] Denver Pioneers dominated the San Diego State Aztecs on Sunday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium thanks to multi-goal games from Julia Gilbert, Olivia Penoyer, Lauren Black, Sloane Kipp and Olivia Ripple.

Denver got off to a hot start, taking a 4-0 run to start the first quarter with Gilbert and Penoyer taking turns on the feed and score to earn a goal and assist each. Gilbert earned the 24th hat trick of her career thanks to a four goal first quarter.

Junior Lauren Black earned a hat trick against the Aztecs, the 14th of her career and second of the season, while senior captain Sloane Kipp also recorded a trio of goals and a pair of ground balls. 

The Pioneers saw new faces contributing to the offensive effort, including a goal by senior defender Bryn McCaughey, the third of her career. Ripple, the true freshman, continues to contribute offensively with a pair of goals, one coming off an assists by fellow freshman Kyra Obert. Sophomore Ryan Dineen recorded a trio of helpers against the Aztecs, with one to Junior Annie McGuire for the scoring finale of the match.

Junior goalkeeper Emelia Bohi earned the win with a pair of saves, while Skyler Constantino earned one in the contest. 

DU earned 15 ground balls to SDSU's 14. The Pioneers recorded 11 caused turnovers, led by graduate student defender Sam Thacker, earning the 171st of her career, breaking the all-time career record. Senior Abby Jenkins had eight draw controls while graduate student Trinity McPherson registered six in the contest.

Jenna McDermott and Frankie Garcia led San Diego State scoring with three goals apiece.

NOTES:
- Sam Thacker moves to first all-time with 171 career caused turnovers.
- Trinity McPherson earned her 100th career caused turnover.
- Nine different Pioneers recorded goals, the most since the 19-4 win over Butler on April 5, 2023.
- Julia Gilbert scored her 150th career goal.
