DENVER, CO -- The Denver women's basketball team shot 55.2 percent from beyond the arc on the way to a 102-92 win over the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles at home Saturday.
The Pioneers (6-16, 3-6) had four players score in double figures, led by Jordan Jones, who had 24 points. Angelina Robles tacked on 22 points and four assists, Smith grabbed 16 and Mary Wilson helped out with 18 points from the bench.
The Denver offense was very productive from three point land, pouring in 16 threes on 29 attempts. Wilson was the most prolific shooter for the Pioneers, draining a career-high six treys in the contest.
How It Happened
After falling behind 8-0, Denver went on a 6-0 run with 7:31 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Wilson, to narrow its deficit to 8-6. The Pioneers deficit remained the same as they entered the second quarter trailing 27-25.
Denver fought back to tie the game at 34-34 before going on a 7-0 run to take a 41-34 lead. The Golden Eagles cut into that lead, but the Pioneers still enjoyed a 52-46 advantage heading into halftime. Denver was strong from deep in the period, knocking down five three-point shots to account for 15 of its 27 points.
Denver continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on an 8-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Robles, to expand its lead further to 69-56 with 3:41 to go in the third. Before the third period was over, the Pioneers added two points to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 79-64 edge. Denver played well near the basket, scoring 18 of its 27 points in the paint.
Denver kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Emma Smith's three, to grow the lead to 85-69 with 7:48 to go in the contest. The Golden Eagles narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Pioneers still cruised the rest of the way for the 102-92 win.
