Denver Opens Three-Game Homestand vs. St. Thomas Saturday

The Pioneers return home looking to snap skid

DENVER  – The University of Denver men's basketball program will open up a three-game homestand on Saturday afternoon when the Pioneers welcome St. Thomas to Hamilton Gymnasium. Tip on Summit League Network and ESPN Denver 1600 is set for 3 p.m. MT.

SERIES HISTORY:
Denver and St. Thomas have both earned a season sweep in the Tommies' two years in the league, resulting in a 2-2 all-time record against eachother. Denver swept UST in 2021-22 before the Tommies answered with a sweep of their own last season.  

LAST TIME OUT:
Tommy Bruner went for 30 for the eighth time this season and Touko Tainamo finished with a double-double, but it wasn't enough in Denver's 92-86 overtime loss at South Dakota on Thursday.

DU'S DI RECORD BOOK WATCH

  • 1000 POINT WATCH: Touko Tainamo has 999 points on his way to 1000, and is on pace to become the 17th in the modern DI era and 44th Pioneer overall to reach that mark.
  • CAREER RECORDS: Tommy Bruner has 319 free-throws made, one behind Brian Stafford for third and 60 behind Nate Rohnert's record.
  • Touko Tainamo became the seventh Pioneer to reach 500 career rebounds and currently sits fifth at 578, 25 behind Chris Udofia for fourth on the list and 173 behind Brett Starkey's (2000-04) school-record 751. 
  • SINGLE SEASON: Tommy Bruner passed Yemi Nicholson (2005-06) for the modern DI record for points in a season on Feb. 8 at South Dakota. Bruner is 21 points off the overall school record held by Matt Teahan(1978-79).
  • Tommy Bruner broke Nate Rohnert's free-throws made record on February 1 and currently sits at 173 (Rohnert - 2009-10, 157).
  • Bruner is fourth in field goals made with 201, four behind Ade Murkey (2019-20) for third and 37 off Yemi Nicholson's record of 238 (2005-06).

TOMMY REACHES 1000 POINTS

  • On January 20, 2024, Tommy Bruner became the 43rd Pioneer overall, and just the 16th in the Pioneers modern Division I era (since 1998-99) to score 1000 career points.
  • Bruner reached 1000 points in just 52 career games in a Denver uniform, 15 games faster than B.J. Prat, who previously held the record.
  • On February 8, 2024, Bruner crossed 2,000 career points in his five-year college career, the 16th active player in the country to reach that milestone.
