DENVER, CO --Jordan Jones notched her seventh double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds, but the Denver women's basketball team fell to the St. Thomas Tommies 79-68 at home Saturday.

In addition to Jones' solid output, the Pioneers (8-21, 5-11) were led by Emma Smith, who had 18 points and four assists, and by Emily Counsel, who added 11 points.

How It Happened

Denver started out the scoring by going on a 5-0 run, culminating in a three from Counsel, to take an early lead with 7:51 left in the first quarter. The Pioneers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 14-10.

Denver then started off the second quarter by going on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a three from Mary Wilson, to take a 16-14 lead. The Tommies then came roaring back to take a 37-32 lead heading into halftime.

St. Thomas continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 43-35 advantage before Denver went on a 9-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Jones, to grab a 44-43 lead with 3:42 to go in the third. The Pioneers held onto that lead for the rest of the frame and entered the fourth quarter with a 51-50 edge. Denver played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 19 points in the paint.
