No. 37 DU Women’s Tennis Adds 4-3 Win at Minnesota

Denver defeats fifth Power-5 opponent of season
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The No. 37-ranked University of Denver women's tennis team (9-4, 1-0 Summit) finished its weekend in the Twin Cities with a 4-3 win at Minnesota on Sunday.
It was Denver's fifth victory of the season over a Power-5 opponent and it second on the road after also defeating Oregon by a score of 4-3 on February 11.
DU clinched the win at 4-1 before the teams played out the final remaining singles matches.
Doubles:
DU dropped the opening match of the day with Minnesota taking No. 3 doubles, but the Pioneers responded by winning the doubles point after earning wins in the Nos. 1 and 2 slots, each with scores of 6-3. Graduate student Britt Pursell and junior Andrea Burguete Beltran returned to No. 1 doubles together after a match off and won their second in a row while the sophomore duo of Caroline Driscoll and Louise Wikander won their ninth match of the season and their fifth with a 6-3 scoreline.
Singles:
Minnesota leveled the dual at 1-1 with a win at No. 1 singles before Denver rattled off three consecutive wins, starting with sophomore Alice Otis in straight sets at No. 5 singles.
Driscoll put DU up 3-1 in a comeback win in No. 3 singles. She responded to dropping the first set with a 6-3 win in the second set before easily taking the third set, 602.
Sophomore Claudia Martinez de Velasco clinched DU's win in two sets at No. 6 singles, taking the first set in a tiebreak before sealing it, 6-4, in the second set.
Pursell and Wikander each found themselves in third sets but ultimately dropped their matches after the dual had been decided in Denver's favor.
