DENVER – Forward
Connor Caponi of University of Denver hockey team will return for a fifth season of eligibility with the Pioneers in 2024-25.
Caponi capped off his senior campaign in 2023-24 by winning his second championship at Denver while producing career highs with five goals, nine assists and 14 points. He appeared in all 44 games during the season and reached a pair of milestones by skating in his 100th career contest in the season opener on Oct. 7 at Alaska Fairbanks and his 125th game on Jan. 27 at North Dakota.
An alternate captain on last year's squad, Caponi has recorded 29 points on 13 goals and 16 assists in 143 career games while also adding 114 penalty minutes. He will have a chance to break Ryan Barrow's (2017-2022) all-time games played record of 168 in 2024-25.
The Milwaukee, Wisconsin, native recorded a pair of multi-point outings this past campaign, recording two assists in the opener in Fairbanks while producing a goal and a helper on Jan. 20 at Omaha. He recorded an assist in the NCAA Regional Semifinals versus Massachusetts on March 28 and tied a career high by blocking four shots in the NCAA Championship Game on April 13 against Boston College.
Caponi, who was also a member of Denver's 2022 championship team, gained an extra year of eligibility from the NCAA due to the disruption of seasons from the COVID-19 Pandemic.
He first joined the Pioneers in the 2020-21 shortened campaign after playing two seasons with the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League and graduating from prep school at Culver Academy.
