DENVER – The University of Denver hockey program had five players named All-American Scholars from the American Hockey Coaches Association for the 2023-24 campaign.
Sophomore defenseman
Kent Anderson, freshman defenseman
Boston Buckberger, junior goaltender
Matt Davis, junior forward
Carter King and freshman forward
Alex Weiermair were the Pioneers that were recognized by the AHCA for their excellence in the classroom. Overall, 38 players from the National Collegiate Hockey Conference were honored, with the DU's five honorees tied for the second-most in the league.
To qualify, a student-athlete must have attained at least a 3.75 grade-point average for each semester or quarter and appear in 40 percent of the team's games. Exceptions were granted to injured players and backup goaltenders.
Davis and King both earned their third-straight All-American Scholar award while Anderson, the NCAA Elite 90 winner at the 2024 Frozen Four, was named to the list for the second time. Buckberger and Weiermair were each recognized as DU Athletics' Scholar-Athletes of the Year for having the highest grade-point average in the school's freshmen class.
Each of those five players were also named to the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team and were awarded as the NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athletes. Anderson, Davis & King were also named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team and are finalists for the organization's All-America honors.
Overall, 638 NCAA Division I men's (343) and women's (295) players were recognized as AHCA All-Academic Scholars for 2023-24.
