DENVER – The Denver Pioneers women's triathlon team ranks No. 4 among Division-I squads in the 2024 Collegiate Triathlon Coaches Association preseason poll.
DU is coming off a fourth-place finish at the 2023 Collegiate National Championships after losing a third-place tiebreaker to San Francisco. The Pioneers placed in the top four in all five college races last season, including winning the DU-hosted Aquathlon Eliminator against Colorado Mesa and placing second at the Eastern Regional National Qualifier.
Defending national champion Arizona State is the preseason favorite while Arizona is ranks second and Queens University of Charlotte was chosen third. Collegiate coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
Overall, the six "Western" school were ranked in the top seven in the preseason coaches' poll.
The Pioneers open their 2024 regular season on Saturday with a super sprint at the Southern Hills Triathlon in Hot Springs, South Dakota.
