DENVER – The University of Denver women's soccer team (4-2-0, 0-0-0 Summit) captured its fourth win in a row and its third-straight clean sheet – despite going down a player for the final 28 minutes – earning a 2-0 win over Colorado College on Sunday afternoon.
Senior
Ella Frost scored what would go on to be the game winner in the 19
th minute, heading home a blocked shot after an initial attempt at net from sophomore
Michaela McGowan. Midway through the second half, fifth-year student
Jordan Crockett was issued a red card following her second yellow of the day, leaving the Pioneers shorthanded for the remainder of the match. But just eight minutes after going down to 10 players, M. McGowan added an insurance goal for the Pioneers – her second of the season.
Junior
Alina Santos collected her second clean sheet in as many starts and extended Denver's shutout streak to three.
COACH'S NOTES:
From head coach
Julianne Sitch: "It takes everyone, and that starts in training. We talk about the shutout mentality and 'what are you going to do to block the service, block the shot and doing anything to save a goal.' That's our whole team in general. That's everyone, the 32 players that show up for training every single day that instill that mentality in each other. It's been great to get three shutouts – three in a row and two here at home. And we're really happy to have a shutout today, given the circumstances of having to play down a player."
SIGNIFICANT STATS:
- Frost netted her third goal of the season and the second game winner of her career.
- The senior's first game-winning goal came during her freshman campaign in what was just her third collegiate match (a 3-0 win versus Utah on August 26, 2021).
- Her goal was also Denver's earliest of the season (previous quickest goal: M. McGowan's 30th-minute goal on August 21 at Texas A&M).
- M. McGowan added three points on the day, bringing her total to four on the weekend and 10 across DU's last four matches.
- The sophomore has now earned at least one point on eight of the last 10 DU goals scored.
- DU's three-match shutout streak is its longest since posting three clean sheets from September 23-30, 2022.
- Denver has not allowed a goal in 319 minutes, shutting out opponents for seven consecutive halves.
- DU's last goal allowed was in the 41st minute at Texas A&M on August 21.
- Denver put up a season-high 21 shots, the most by the Pioneers since a 30-shot outing on September 10, 2023, at Oregon.
- M. McGowan led the team with five shot attempts – a new career high and the most by a Denver player since then-redshirt sophomore Samantha Dreiling also had five on September 23, 2023, against Oral Roberts.
- Santos' six saves are the most for a Denver goalkeeper since then-freshman Molly Wissman had seven on August 27, 2023, at Milwaukee.
FIRST HALF:
14' | An initial DU attack was stopped by the CC backline before senior
Riley Baker had a second look at the net but curled the ball over the far post.

20' | Crockett saw two shots on target blocked away off consecutive Denver corners.
SECOND HALF:
59' | Senior
Jadyn Goodrich and redshirt sophomore
Hannah Tate both had cracks at headers off a DU corner but could not find the back of the net.
62' | Crockett was issued her second yellow card of the match and was sent off with a red card, leaving DU down to 10 players.
70' | M. McGowan juggled around a CC defender and launched a ball over the outstretched keeper's hands and just into the upper left corner of the net.
74' | Santos maintained the clean sheet, handling a CC shot that curled between a couple Pioneers inside the six-yard box.
82' & 84' | The Tigers had a couple shot attempts from distance that Santos either successfully blocked away or snagged out of the air.

DU (4-2-0, 0-0-0 Summit) begins a five-match road trip with its second-straight against an in-state opponent when it visits Colorado on Thursday, September 5, at 7 p.m. MT.
