Denver Women’s Soccer Posts 1-0 Win at Colorado State

Vanessa Murray’s 49th-minute winner boosts DU to 250th Division I clean sheet

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The University of Denver women's soccer team (6-3-0, 0-0-0 Summit) captured its fourth shutout win of the season with a 1-0 win at Colorado State on Thursday night.

DU went into halftime in a 0-0 tie for the fifth time so far in 2024 before graduate student Vanessa Murray scored just over three minutes into the second half in what would be the match's only goal.

SIGNIFICANT STATS:
  • Thursday's clean sheet was the 250th in Denver's Division I history and its 79th in a road match.
    • DU's four shutouts so far are its most during a non-conference schedule since the Pioneers had five in 2019.
  • V. Murray's goal was her first of the season and the fourth of her career.
    • It was also the second game winner of her career and her first since a 3-1 DU win at home over Northern Colorado on August 31, 2023.
    • She also equaled her career high with four shot attempts that was tied for the most in Thursday night's match.
  • For the sixth match in a row, Denver registered at least 10 shots in a half with its 10 in the first half.
    • Of the 14 Pioneers who saw playing time, nine had at least one shot attempt.
  • Denver held the Rams to just a single shot on goal, the fewest by a DU opponent this season.
  • Sophomore keeper Molly Wissman collected her second shutout of the season and the eighth of her career.
FIRST HALF:
2' | Redshirt sophomore Hannah Tate had the first offensive chance of the contest but saw her shot cleared off the line by a CSU defender.

31' | Senior Jadyn Goodrich took a crack from the edge of the box but pushed it just inches over the crossbar.

33' | Wissman made her first notable save of the night with a punch off CSU's first corner kick of the match.

43' | Redshirt junior Samantha Dreiling curled a shot toward net and forced a quality save from the Rams' keeper.

SECOND HALF:
49' | CSU attempted a clear from the right side of the box, but V. Murray intercepted it and launched it at net from outside the 18-yard box, bouncing it off the inside the far post and into the back of the net.

70' | S. Dreiling put a header on target from about 15 yards back but sent it over the net.

77' | Wissman punched clear a CSU corner kick before redshirt sophomore Emma Thielbahr had a block on a second CSU attempt off the rebound.

88' | V. Murray nearly had her second of the night but curled a shot wide right.
