Denver Triathlon Hosts Community Aquathlon Sept. 22

All proceeds help support the Pioneers’ emerging NCAA Division-I sport

DENVER The University of Denver triathlon team invites the community to take part in an aquathlon super sprint on Sunday, Sept. 22 on the DU campus. An aquathlon is multi-sport race similar to triathlon but entails just a swim and a run (no bike).

Registration starts at just $25 and all proceeds go to the Pioneers' women's NCAA Division-I triathlon program. Click here to register. The first 30 people to pre-register will get a DU triathlon-branded water bottle.

The event is scheduled from 9-11 a.m. and features a 200-meter swim in DU's El Pomar Natatorium and a 1-kilometer run around the adjacent sports fields of the school's Ritchie Center for Sports and Wellness. Registration includes participation in the aquathlon, a meet and greet with DU's women's triathlon team and complimentary light refreshments and snacks afterward.

There is also an option to take part in a two-person relay team where you and a partner each compete a leg of the aquathlon course ($40 for relay team). For an extra $10, a participant can also partner with a member of DU's triathlon team to complete the relay.

DU triathlon is also offering a family-friendly option of a 25-meter swim and 1K run that can be completed as an individual or as a relay.

Check-in on Sunday will be at the bottom of the stairs of the west entrance of the Ritchie Center. Paid parking is available in Lot 311. Free parking is also available on several streets adjacent to the DU campus.

Women's triathlon in an NCAA emerging sport and Denver has been among the top programs in the nation since its inaugural campaign in 2020-21. The Pioneers have placed in the top four at each of their three national championship races and reached the podium in third place in 2022—the highest finish by a DU individual D-I women's program in school history.

As a team, DU has raced the school's aquathlon course as part of a regular-season meet in each of the previous two years: a relay event in 2022 and a two-team dual with Colorado Mesa University in 2023.
