DENVER – The University of Denver hockey team sophomore
Zeev Buium was chosen as Defenseman of the Week by from the National Collegiate Hockey Conference on Monday.
Buium takes home his second top defender award of the season and the fifth overall in his career as a sophomore in the conference. He also picked up Defenseman of the Week honors earlier this campaign on Nov. 18.
The San Diego, California, native picked up a goal and two assists on Friday night in Denver's 4-1 win over Miami at Magness Arena. It was his third three-point game of the season and the eighth of his career, along with his sixth multi-point contest of the campaign. In DU's 6-2 win on Saturday, he recorded an assist and marked the 10th game of the season where he blocked at least one shot.
Buium ranks second in both the NCAA and on the team with the most assists at 19, behind only Denver forward
Jack Devine. He is tied for the nation's lead in scoring among defensemen with 24 points, which also ranks third on the Pios. Buium has registered 13 points (4g/9a) in the past 10 games he's played in dating back to Nov. 15 at North Dakota.
Omaha's Brady Risk was selected as the NCHC Forward of the Week and Simon Latkoczy as Goaltender of the Week, while Minnesota Duluth goalie Klayton Knapp was chosen as Rookie of the Week. Denver's
Aidan Thompson was a finalist for this week's forward honor.
UP NEXT: The Pioneers are on their second bye of the season and resume play on Jan. 24-25 at Minnesota Duluth. The series opener on that Friday begins at 6 p.m. MT, while the Saturday start time is at 5 p.m. MT. Both games will be broadcast on NCHC.tv.
