DENVER – University of Denver skiing has four current and former student-athletes that are representing their respective countries at the 2025 FISU World University Games in Torino, Italy.

Loic Chable (Switzerland) and freshman
Pietro Motterlini (Italy) will compete in alpine skiing while recent alums
Jack Bowers (United States) of alpine and
Hanna Ray (Finland) will also race in this year's games.
The alpine events are set from Wednesday, Jan. 15 through Wednesday, Jan. 22. Nordic skiing also began on Jan. 15 and runs through the last day of the Games on Thursday, Jan. 23. Alpine races are being held at Melezet-Bardonecchia, while the cross country races are at Pragelato Plan.
Chable is in his first campaign with the Pioneers after racing the previous two seasons at Westminster University. Chable entered this year with three top-10 placements and two podium appearances. He led the DU men with a fifth-place finish in slalom at the Denver Invitational on Jan. 7 at Loveland Ski area.
Motterlini is a rookie on this year's Pioneers' squad following a stint with the Italian National Team. He raced in seven Europa Cup events in 2023 and 2024 and took part in both the 2023 and 2024 FIS Junior World Championships for Italy. He made his college debut last week at the RMISA Alpine Qualifier and DU Invitational, included a 15th-place finish in giant slalom on Jan. 8 at Copper Mountain Resort.
Bowers was a member of Denver's alpine team for the previous two seasons, racing in 25 events and recording 12 top-20 results and two top-five finishes. He recorded a career-best fifth place in both men's slalom races on Jan. 27, 2023 at the Westminster Invitational. Bowers also represented the Pioneers at the 2023 NCAA Championships.
Ray competed four seasons at DU from 2021-2024 and was a team captain as senior last year. A two-time All-American, Ray recorded 11 top-10 finishes in her career and placed in the top 20 in 39-of-42 career races. The Esse, Finland, native also represented the Pioneers at each NCAA Championship, which included a pair of ninth-place finishes at the 2021 and 2022 women's 5K classic.
This is the 32nd Winter World University Games and is administered by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). It is considered the second-best multi-sport winter event in the world after the Winter Olympics and features athletes ages 17-25. The event was last in Italy in 2013 (Trentino) and this is the fourth time overall that Torino has hosted the games, with it being the site of two winter and two summer competitions.
