COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of Denver women's tennis team (1-2, 0-0 Summit) earned its first win of the 2025 dual season with a 4-0 sweep of South Florida at the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Saturday afternoon.
DU claimed the doubles point once again and then backed it up with three straight-sets singles wins.
Doubles:
For the second day in a row, Denver collected the doubles point with wins from its top two teams. Juniors
Claudia Martinez de Velasco and
Louise Wikander extended their season-starting win streak to 3-0 with a second consecutive 6-4 win, and senior
Andrea Burguete Beltran and junior
Marley Lambert matched that scoreline for their second win together in dual play so far.
The No. 3 doubles match featuring junior
Hana Bečirovič Novak and freshman
Natálie Cinková was abandoned at 4-4.
Singles:
The first three singles matches to wrap up all went in favor of DU players and all in straight sets. Martinez de Velasco turned an early break in the first into a 6-3 win and then matched that score in the second to put Denver up, 2-0, overall.
Burguete Beltran eased through her first set for a 6-1 win in the No. 1 singles match before closing out the match with a 6-3 second set.
Bečirovič Novak earned the clinching point for the Pioneers. After holding an early lead to start her match, she found herself in a tiebreak but was able to hold on to take it, 7-3. She followed it up with another early break to start the second and this time, it proved to be enough as she sealed the set, 6-4.
At No. 2 singles, Wikander had started to rally back after losing her first set but evening up the scoreline with a 6-4 win in the second set. She was only one game into the decisive set when DU clinched the dual.
Lambert won her first set at No. 3 singles but lost the second set. She held a 2-1 lead in the third when it was abandoned.
Cinková made it a perfect 5-1 for DU in first sets to begin singles play with a 6-2 win. She was late in a second set at 5-6 where the match was left unfinished.

The University of Denver women's tennis team returns to the state of Texas for two more matches hosted at Baylor University. DU will first play Nebraska in a neutral-site match on Saturday, February 1, before taking on the host Baylor on Sunday, February 2.
