DENVER – Former University of Denver men's soccer four-year starter and career U.S. Marine Brett Barkey dropped the puck at DU Hockey's regular season opener on Saturday, October 11 as part of the program's celebration for Military Appreciation Night.
Barkey is a retired U.S. Marine that served his country for 25 years, including three tours in Iraq. Following his military service, Barkey served as a prosecutor in Northwest Colorado, including two terms as an elected District Attorney. The former Pioneer soccer player also served in the General Counsel's Office at the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
The U.S. Marine is giving back to the veterans' community, serving as a pro bono veterans' attorney and volunteering for the Rocky Mountain Veterans Advocacy Project, a partner of DU's Sturm College of Law.
Barkey got his BA (1983) and his MA (2022) from the University of Denver and earned his law degree from Georgetown University. The 1982 CoSIDA Academic All-American and his wife Jenni live in University Park and are proud supporters of DU's varsity athletic programs.
