DU Hockey Ranks No. 6 and 7 in Latest National Polls

Pioneers hockey split its road series in Boston at BC and Northeastern

DENVER – The Denver Pioneers hockey team moved up to No. 6 in the USCHO.com weekly poll and stayed at No. 7 in the USA Hockey ranking after each new list was released on Monday.

Denver is coming off a weekend split where it won 7-3 at then-No. 9 Boston College on Friday before losing 1-0 at a rested-and-waiting Northeastern squad on Saturday. DU was previously No 7 in each ranking.

Michigan State stayed at No. 1 in both polls while Michigan jumped past Western Michigan for No. 2 following their home-and-home series. Each Michigan-based squad won on home ice, with WMU falling to No. 3 by just a few points in each ranking. Penn State moved up to No. 4 after a weekend sweep while Boston University fell to No. 5.

Quinnipiac ranks ahead of Denver at No. 6 in the USA Hockey ranking, while the Pioneers hold the advantage over the Bobcats in the USCHO.com poll.

The NCHC leads all conferences with four teams ranked in the top 10 in the USCHO.com poll, and its five total ranked squads are third-most in the nation. The conference is tied with the Big Ten and Hockey East with three each in the top 10 in the USA Hockey rankings.

Joining the Pioneers and WMU Broncos in the polls are fellow league members North Dakota at No. 8/8, Minnesota Duluth at No. 10/11 and Colorado College at No. 15/16. Arizona State, Miami, Omaha and St. Cloud State also received votes among each electorate.

UP NEXT: No. 6/7 Denver returns to Magness Arena this week for Homecoming Weekend, as the Pioneers take on Alaska Anchorage on Friday at 7 p.m. MT and Saturday at 6 p.m. MT. Both games will be available on NCHC.tv while Friday's contest will be televised regionally on Altitude 2 and in Canada on TSN+.
