SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – University of Denver men's basketball sophomore guard Carson Johnson has been named to the Summit League Men's Basketball Preseason Second Team, the league office announced at its media day on Tuesday.
Johnson joins the Pioneers after playing for new Denver head coach Tim Bergstraser at Minnesota State Moorhead a year ago, leading the Dragons to the Regional Final for the first time in 10 years. The 2025 NABC All-Central District First Team pick had his redshirt pulled midseason and went on to play and start in 23 games for MSUM, averaging 19.8 points and netting a team-high 64 triples. The first freshman to ever win the NSIC Tournament MVP honor scored in double figures in 20 of his 23 appearances, including 12 performances of 20 or more points.
DU's backcourt addition dropped a season-high 42 against St. Cloud State, the most in a single game at MSUM in 30 seasons. Johnson went on to also be named to the D2CCA All-Central Region Second Team and the NCAA Central Regional All-Tournament Team.
In his prep career in Iowa, Johnson was named the 2024 IBCA 4A Player of the Year, was a four-time all-conference pick and was named to the All-State team twice.
As a team, Denver was picked seventh in the nine-team league.
Denver opens its first season under Bergstraser on November 3 at Seattle. The Pioneers home opener is against UTSA on November 15 at 4 p.m. MT. Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here.
