HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
An error-ridden set by the Pioneers kept it close throughout, despite Denver outhitting North Dakota, 20-13. Denver was able to piece together offensive momentum after falling behind 2-6 to start the match to tie it 13-13. Both teams traded kills back and forth throughout the middle of the match but a big swing by Molina put the set away for DU, 25-22.
SET 2
DU found its stride offensively to take an early 13-6 lead. The Pioneers capitalized on North Dakota mistakes and minimized their own to win the set 25-16.
SET 3
Denver jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before UND tied it up at 6-6. Both teams battled back and forth with UND holding a narrow lead. The Fighting Hawks extended their lead to 17-14, forcing a Pioneer timeout. Coming out of the timeout, the Pioneers tied it up at 18 and a huge back row attack by Reynolds gave DU the 20-19 lead. Denver held on despite a late rally by UND to earn the 25-23 set three victory.
The Pioneers will play their final home match of the season on November 13 against Oral Roberts.
