Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The University of Denver volleyball team fell to St. Thomas (9-25, 25-22,19-25, 15-25) on Thursday night in Minnesota.
Three Pioneers hit over .300 in the loss:
Genevieve Lewis,
Alicia Thibodeau and
Elise Hart.
Madison Winkler recorded 18 digs and Molina added two blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET 1:
St. Thomas jumped out to an early 8-1 lead and the Pioneer struggled to recover offensive momentum. The deficit extended to 4-16 before Denver ultimately dropped the set, 25-9.
SET 2:
The Pioneers bounced back in set two with an early 5-1 lead, aided by back to back Tommie attacking errors. St. Thomas tied it up 12-12 and both teams battled back and forth before the Tommies took a 22-16 lead. The Pioneers took a 9-0 run with
Ilayda Eren at the service line to come from behind and win the set, 25-22.
SET 3:
Denver once again took a quick 5-1 lead, but St. Thomas was quick to answer and tied the match, 5-5. Both teams traded kills before UST took a 10-7 lead and is ultimately able to extend it to 14-8. The Pioneers rallied to cut the deficit to one but ultimately dropped the set, 25-19.
SET 4:
After a back-and-forth start, St. Thomas used its balanced attack and offensive efficiency to defeat the Pioneers, 25-15.
