DENVER -- Denver women's basketball is set for a battle against in-state rival Northern Colorado on Friday at 6 p.m. MT in Greeley, Colorado.
The Pioneers are 9-9 all-time against the Bears, including a 64-53 win in Hamilton Gymnasium on Dec. 13, 2024.
PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE
•The Pioneers fell to future conference foe Loyola Marymount, 57-64 on Sunday afternoon in California. Sophomore guard
Coryn Watts recorded a career-high 23 points.
•Denver will travel up I-25 to take on in-state foe Northern Colorado on Friday night in Greeley, Colo.
•DU returns to Hamilton Gymnasium to take on Cal State Fullerton on Sunday afternoon.
UNIVERSITY OF DENVER ACCEPTS WCC INVITE FOR 2026-27
•On October 31, the University of Denver announced it has accepted an invitation to join the West Coast Conference in nine sports, beginning in the 2026-27 season.
•Denver will join the West Coast Conference in men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's tennis and women's volleyball.
•The move provides Denver with a significant enhancement to the overall reputation of the university and brand association, allying DU with highly regarded, mostly private institutions with stronger academic ranking and profiles that will further strengthen the university's position in the western United States.
WORKIN' WITH WATTS
•Sophomore Guard
Coryn Watts recorded a career-high 23 points in Sunday's game in California against Loyola Marymount.
•The Colorado native leads the team with 35.3 minutes and 19 points per game and six steals through the first three contests.
ADDING SOME EXPERIENCE
• Alongside its four freshmen, Woods added experience to the Pioneers' 2025-26 roster with four transfers:
Lexi Pletschette,
Karolina Padilla,
Ana Conde and
Jocelyn Medina.
•Pletschette spent two seasons at Chabot College where she averaged 16.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game and appeared in 59 games as a starter.
• Padilla appeared in 61 games over two seasons at Cochise College and led her team to an NJCAA Region 1 Championship in the 2024-25 season.
• In her freshman season at Siena, Conde averaged 15.3 minutes per contest and helped her team to a WNIT appearance.
• Medina amassed an impressive career at College of the Sequoias, including a Central Valley Conference Championship, Northern California Player of the Year and averaged 22.8 points per game with a 57.8 shooting percentage.
FRESH FACES ON THE BENCH
• In addition to the new faces on the roster, Woods added
Janet Butler,
Alex Frazier and
Owen Adams to the coaching staff this offseason.
• Butler joins the staff after spending a season as an assistant coach at Fordham and four seasons on staff at Tulane.
•Frazier previously served as an assistant at Monmouth University, coaching the program's first All-CAA First Team selection.
• Adams, a former student manager for Denver, returns to the DU staff after serving as a graduate assistant coach at Houston Christian.
