DENVER – The Denver Pioneers hockey team ranks No. 4 in the newest USCHO.com and USA Hockey polls that were released on Monday.
DU was No 3 last week and split its series at Arizona State this past weekend. The Pioneers beat the Sun Devils 7-1 on Friday before falling 3-2 in overtime on Saturday.
Michigan State was the unanimous No. 1 team in the land previously but was swept at home by then-No. 7/8 Wisconsin. The UW Badgers moved up to No. 2 while MSU dropped to No. 3. Michigan is the new No. 1 in each ranking, including earning unanimous nods in the USA Hockey poll.
Minnesota Duluth fell to No. 5 after splitting its series at Colorado College, while former No. 5 Penn State dropped to No. 9 after being swept by Michigan.
The NCHC has four ranked teams, which are tied for second-most in each poll and joins the Big Ten with each of their four squads in the top 10. Hockey East has seven ranked squads while the ECAC also has four featured in the polls.
After Denver at No. 4/4 and Minnesota Duluth at No. 5/5 is North Dakota at No. 6/6 and Western Michigan at No. 7/7. The other five league members—Arizona State, Colorado College, Miami, Omaha and St. Cloud State—also received votes in at least one of the polls.
