Eric Pohlkamp of the University of Denver hockey team was named Defenseman of the Week by the National Collegiate Hockey Conference on Tuesday
Pohlkamp totaled three points, 11 shots, three blocks and a plus-1 rating last weekend in Denver's series split at Arizona State.
He began the two-game set on Friday with a two goals and one assist on four shots in a 7-1 win at ASU. His two-goal performance marked his fourth multi-goal contest of his career while his three points were his sixth such outing during his time in the NCAA. On Saturday, Pohlkamp fired seven shots on goal and blocked two shots in a 3-2 overtime loss at the Sun Devils
The Baxter, Minnesota, native had scored six goals in six-game stretch from Nov. 1-21 and owns nine points (6g/3a) in seven games during the month of November. Pohlkamp leads the Pioneers in scoring with 16 points and also paces the program in overall goals (10), game-winning goals (2-tied) and shots (66) while ranking second in plus/minus rating (+13-tied). His 10 goals lead all NCAA defensemen and are tied for eighth overall, and his 16 points rank third for blueliners in the country.
This is Pohlkamp's sixth career NCHC Defenseman of the Week honor and his third of the season. He also earned the award on Oct. 15 and Nov. 11, and this is the third consecutive week that a DU player took home the top defenseman award after
Boston Buckberger was honored last week (Nov. 18).
Western Michigan's Zaccharya Wisdom was named NCHC Forward of the Week and teammate Hampton Slukynsky was selected as Goaltender of the Week, while David Deputy of Miami was picked as Rookie OF the Week. Denver's
Samu Salminen (forward) and
Quentin Miller (Goaltender and Rookie) were also finalists for this week's awards.
