HOW IT HAPPENED

UTEP opened the game on a 13–0 run, holding Denver scoreless for nearly six minutes before Watts hit a 3-pointer at the 3:57 mark. The Miners briefly went scoreless for more than two minutes, allowing the Pioneers to cut the deficit to seven, but UTEP maintained control and took a 19–9 lead into the second quarter.

Both teams struggled to start the second, going nearly four minutes without a point. Denver held UTEP to a nearly five-minute field goal drought and Denver followed with a two minute scoring drought of their own, and the Miners stretched their lead to 30–17 at halftime.

Monclova opened the quarter with a 3-pointer, but UTEP immediately answered to preserve its 13-point margin. Tori Baker converted an and-one at the 2:20 mark to pull Denver within 10 to jumpstart a 10–0 DU run to cut the deficit to 43–36 before the Miners retook control and took a 45–38 lead into the fourth.

Quick fouls and turnovers by Denver early in the period allowed UTEP to push its lead back to nine. The Miners seized full control with a 9–0 run that stretched the margin to 64–47 with 3:25 remaining. Watts added a late jumper, but Denver couldn't rally and fell 69–52.
