DENVER - The University of Denver women's basketball team is set to take on a pair of future West Coast Conference foes this weekend in UC San Diego and Loyola Marymount.
The Pioneers will first take on the Tritons of UC San Diego on Friday at 7 p.m. MT in San Diego, California. Denver is 1-0 all-time against UCSD, earning a 67-59 victory in their most recent meeting on Nov. 24, 2024. DU will then travel to Los Angeles to face off against the LMU Lions on Sunday at 3 p.m. MT. The Pioneers own a 5-1 record over LMU, but dropped the most recent matchup, 79-61 on Nov. 30, 2023.
PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE
•
Coryn Watts recorded a 19-point performance but dropped their season opener against Air Force, 50-59 on Monday.
•Denver travels west to take on future conference opponents UCSD and LMU this weekend.
•DU takes on in-state rival Northern Colorado in Greeley on Nov. 14.
UNIVERSITY OF DENVER ACCEPTS WCC INVITE FOR 2026-27
•On October 31, the University of Denver announced it has accepted an invitation to join the West Coast Conference in nine sports, beginning in the 2026-27 season.
•Denver will join the West Coast Conference in men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's tennis and women's volleyball.
•The move provides Denver with a significant enhancement to the overall reputation of the university and brand association, allying DU with highly regarded, mostly private institutions with stronger academic ranking and profiles that will further strengthen the university's position in the western United States.
WORKIN' WITH WATTS
•Sophomore Guard
Coryn Watts recorded a team-high 19 points in the season opener on Monday.
•The Colorado naive shot 66% from three and added five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
SPANISH INFLUENCE
• Four Pioneers join the team from Spain-
Paula Oliva Gomez,
Natalia Fanjul,
Laia Monclova and
Ana Conde.
• Oliva Gomez and Fanjul both led their high school teams to 3x3 championships during their high school careers.
•Conde joins the Pioneers after a season at Siena where she led her team to a WNIT appearance and averaged 15.3 minutes per contest.
• Monclova enters her second season with Denver and averaged 5.2 points and 2.4 rebounds in 20.4 minutes per game.
ADDING SOME EXPERIENCE
• Alongside its four freshmen, Woods added experience to the Pioneers' 2025-26 roster with four transfers:
Lexi Pletschette,
Karolina Padilla,
Ana Conde and
Jocelyn Medina.
•Pletschette spent two seasons at Chabot College where she averaged 16.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game and appeared in 59 games as a starter.
• Padilla appeared in 61 games over two seasons at Cochise College and led her team to an NJCAA Region 1 Championship in the 2024-25 season.
• In her freshman season at Siena, Conde averaged 15.3 minutes per contest and helped her team to a WNIT appearance.
• Medina amassed an impressive career at College of the Sequoias, including a Central Valley Conference Championship, Northern California Player of the Year and averaged 22.8 points per game with a 57.8 shooting percentage.

• Denver's 14-player roster comes to the Mile High City from five different states and two countries.
• The five states are: California (Pletschette, Medina), Colorado (Baker, Murrell, Watts), Illinois (Rosenberger, Esparza), Texas (McLeod) and Arizona (Padilla)
