Box Score

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The University of Denver women's basketball team closed out its west coast roadtrip with a 64-57 loss to Loyola Marymount on Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles.

Coryn Watts led the Denver offense with a career-best 23 points. Jocelyn Medina made the strongest showing of her Pioneer career with 12 points and 4 rebounds. Brooke Murrell grabbed six boards.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Pioneers struggled early, committing five turnovers in the first five minutes and falling into a nine-point deficit. A pair of free throws by Ana Conde ended a nearly five-minute scoring drought, but Denver trailed 15-8 after the first quarter.

Denver's offensive struggles continued into the second quarter. LMU capitalized with a 7-0 run to extend its lead to 29-15. The Pioneers held the Lions scoreless for two and a half minutes but couldn't close the gap, heading into halftime down 33-20.

LMU opened the second half with another 7-0 run, pushing the margin to 40-23. The Pioneers responded with five 3-pointers from Watts, Medina, Monclova and Padilla, trimming the deficit to 49-38 entering the fourth.

Denver kept fighting in the final quarter, cutting the lead to single digits on a pair of Jocelyn Medina free throws with just over 30 seconds remaining. Despite a 7-0 run to close the game, the Pioneers fell to the Lions 64-57.
