McMorrow Named to USA's 2026 World Junior Preliminary Roster

Denver hockey forward looking to make the 2026 World Junior Championships in his home state

DENVER – Freshman forward Brendan McMorrow of the University of Denver hockey team has been invited to the U.S. National Junior Team's training camp in preparation for the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship on home soil.

McMorrow, 19, is one of 28 players that were named to Team USA's preliminary roster for the upcoming World Juniors in St. Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota. Training camp is set from Dec. 15-23 at Amsoil Arena in Duluth, Minnesota, and the final 25 players of the team will be announced by Dec. 24.

From Lakeville, Minnesota, McMorrow has one goal and four assists in 13 games played this season, while also registering 18 shots, four penalty minutes and a plus-4 rating. He made his NCAA debut on Oct. 17 at Lindenwood and recorded his first career point by scoring on Oct. 24 at Boston College.

The right wing joined Denver after playing for the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League in 2024-25 and following a two-year stint with the U.S. National Team Development Program in Plymouth, Michigan, from 2022-2024. He compiled 74 total points (38g/36a) in 121 career games with the NTDP.

McMorrow represented the United States and won gold medals at the 2022 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge (1g/5a) and 2024 World Junior-A Challenge (2g/5a). He also earned a silver medal while playing in all seven games at the 2024 IIHF U18 World Championships

He was selected by the Los Angeles Kings this past summer in the seventh round at No. 196 overall in the 2025 NHL Draft.

The IIHF World Junior Championship returns to U.S. soil for the first time since Buffalo, New York, hosted the event in 2018. The under-20 tournament runs from Dec. 26, 2025-Jan. 5, 2026 and will be held at the home of the NHL's Minnesota Wild, Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, and on the University of Minnesota campus at 3M Arena at Mariucci in Minneapolis.

Team USA is the defending champions after winning both the 2024 and 2025 tournaments in Sweden and Canada, respectively, with Denver hockey's Richard and Kitzia Goodman Head Coach David Carle leading both squads to gold.
