Denver Opens Big Sky Summit Challenge at Eastern Washington

DENVER -- The University of Denver women's basketball game plays the first of the two-game Big Sky Summit League challenge on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. MT in Cheney, Washington.

The Pioneers are 1-1 all time against the Eagles, with the most recent matchup coming on Dec. 29, 2004 in Washington, with the Pioneers falling 54-70.

PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE
•After notching three straight wins over Northern Colorado, Cal State Fullerton and Regis, the Pioneers fell to UTEP, 52-69, on 11/29 in El Paso 
•Denver travels to Cheney, Washington on Wednesday to take on the Eastern Washington Eagles for the first game of a two-part Big Sky/Summit League Challenge. 
•DU returns to Hamilton Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon to take on the Idaho Vandals in the second game of the Big Sky/Summit League Challenge.

UNIVERSITY OF DENVER ACCEPTS WCC INVITE FOR 2026-27
•On October 31, the University of Denver announced it has accepted an invitation to join the West Coast Conference in nine sports, beginning in the 2026-27 season.  
•Denver will join the West Coast Conference in men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's tennis and women's volleyball.
•The move provides Denver with a significant enhancement to the overall reputation of the university and brand association, allying DU with highly regarded, mostly private institutions with stronger academic ranking and profiles that will further strengthen the university's position in the western United States. 

BIG SKY SUMMIT LEAGUE CHALLENGE
•The Pioneers are set to play Eastern Washington (12/3) and Idaho (12/6) as a part of the Big Sky Summit League Challenge this week. 
•The Summit League is in seach of a third-straight challenge win this season. 
•Denver went 1-1 last season in the challenge.

WORKIN' WITH WATTS
•Sophomore Guard Coryn Watts tied her career-high 23 points in the win over California State Fullerton on November 16.
•The Colorado native leads the team and the league with 35.1 minutes and second with 137 points through the first seven contests.
•Watts ranks 64th in the nation in total points, 33rd in points per game, 49th in field goal attempts, 67th in field goals and 27th in minutes per game.

FRESH FACES ON THE BENCH
• In addition to the new faces on the roster, Woods added Janet Butler, Alex Frazier and Owen Adams to the coaching staff this offseason.
• Butler joins the staff after spending a season as an assistant coach at Fordham and four seasons on staff at Tulane.
•Frazier previously served as an assistant at Monmouth University, coaching the program's  first All-CAA First Team selection.
• Adams, a former student manager for Denver, returns to the DU staff after serving as a graduate assistant coach at Houston Christian.
