DENVER – University of Denver skiing's alpine and Nordic squads have been busy on snow in preparation for the 2026 collegiate season.
Both groups are in midst of winter camps and are taking part in early-season races. Several DU Nordic athletes are together in Alaska where they have been taking to the snow in the Anchorage and Fairbanks areas while others are back in Europe and set to compete in FIS events in their home countries. The alpine team has been busy with daily trainings at Loveland Ski Area since first getting on snow on Oct. 31.
Both groups have several FIS events on their schedule before beginning the 2026 RMISA campaign, with Nordic starting the U.S. Super Tour season and alpine beginning its North American Cup over the past week.
Nordic has eight races in Alaska before reconvening after the New Year for the U.S. Cross Country National Championships in Lake Placid, New York. Alpine started the Nor-Am Cup with races at Copper Mountain and Beaver Creek this week before competing at the annual Holiday Classic, which is being held next week in Aspen and Steamboat Springs.
Denver's full non-collegiate schedule is at the bottom. The Pioneers start college races with the Nordic-only RMISA Invitational on Jan. 4 in Lake Placid during the U.S. Cross Country Nationals. The Denver and Colorado Invitationals mark the first alpine races of the NCAA season on Jan. 12-15 at Loveland Ski Area and Eldora Mountain Resort.
Here is what also is happening with Denver Skiing.
MORITZ SAVORED WORLD UP EXPERIENCE ON HOME SNOW
In what might be one of the few times in her international career, DU alpine sophomore
Liv Moritz raced in her backyard at the women's slalom FIS World Cup race at Copper Mountain on Nov. 30.
The Vail Valley, Colorado, native didn't look out of place in her fifth career World Cup and was in position to qualify for a second run before a late DNF.
COLLEGE SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED
Denver unveiled its 2026 collegiate schedule last month with 29 total events spread across seven meets and individual qualifiers.
DU and CU are sharing hosting duties for the alpine portion of their own meets, with the giant slalom races on Jan. 12-13 at Eldora Mountain Resort and slalom on Jan. 14-15 at Loveland Ski Area. The DU Invitational's Nordic races are set for Feb. 7-8 at Maloit Park in Minturn, Colorado.
Postseason action returns out west with Montana State hosting both the RMISA Championships on Feb. 26-28 and NCAA Championships on March 11-14 at Crosscut Mountain Sports Center and Bridger Bowl Ski Area in Bozeman.
