DENVER -- The University of Denver women's basketball team fell to the Idaho Vandals, 54-84, on Saturday afternoon in Hamilton Gymnasium.
Coryn Watts led the Pioneer offense with 15 points.
Karolina Padilla and
Laila McLeod each added eight.
Brooke Murrell added five points and five rebounds.
Denver struck first when Watts knocked down a three-pointer at 9:05 of the opening quarter, but the Pioneers went scoreless for more than three minutes as Idaho moved in front 9–5. McLeod briefly restored a Denver lead with a three-pointer to make it 10–9, but another dry spell left the Pioneers trailing 16–10 after one.
Denver picked up the pace early in the second quarter to trim the deficit, but a transition three put the Vandals back up 25–19. Idaho controlled the boards with a 15–7 rebounding edge and pushed its lead to 30–19 as DU endured another two-minute scoring drought. The Vandals took a 37–28 lead into halftime.
Idaho broke the game open with an 11–0 run to start the third, stretching the margin to 48–28. Denver responded with back-to-back 3-pointers and a fast-break layup, but still trailed 62–43 heading to the fourth.
The Pioneers struggled to generate offense late, and Idaho continued to roll, with Denver ultimately falling, 54-84.
