[25] Denver Survives Thriller Against Georgetown

DENVER - The University of Denver women's lacrosse team survives a back-and-forth battle with the Georgetown Hoyas, coming out on top 16-13, on Saturday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
The Hoyas struck first with a free position goal three minutes into the first frame to take an early 1-0 lead. Denver was quick to respond with a pair of goals by Lauren Black and one by Olivia Ripple to take a 3-1 lead. Georgetown responded with another goal of their own before the Pioneers tacked on two more to take a 5-2 lead after the first frame of play.
The Pioneers continued to pour on the offense in the second quarter. Caroline Colimore made her way into the scoring column with just over a minute left in the half, followed by two quick goals by Ripple and Black to take a 10-4 advantage into halftime.
Georgetown took back the momentum in the third quarter with four unanswered goals to cut the deficit to one at the five-minute mark. Black stopped the Hoyas run with a free position goal with just under ninety seconds remaining in the quarter. The Pioneers were then able to turn defense into offense with a caused turnover by Maddie Montgomery who was able to take it the length of the field before handing off to Eva Thomsen-Marr to extend the Denver lead back to three with one second remaining in the third.
Denver and Georgetown traded goals back and forth in the fourth with the Hoyas cutting the deficit to two with just under three minutes remaining. Emelia Bohi came up with a huge save off a shot by Gracie Driggs that the Pioneers were able to convert into a goal by Kyra Obert, securing the 16-13 win.
KEY PERFORMANCES:
Emelia Bohi made a career-high 15 saves between the pipes with a .536 save percentage on the day. Maddie Montgomery tacked on a trio of ground balls and three caused turnovers and Sarah Pokorny added a pair of caused turnovers and two loose balls on the defensive end.
Lauren Black recorded her second sock trick of the season with six goals and an assist. Olivia Ripple added four goals and Eva Thomsen-Marr added a pair of her own.
Alex Dorr led the draw unit with 11 wins in the circle and Raegan Wilson tacked on four draw wins.
