[RV/RV] Denver Travels to [13/13] Georgetown Saturday

The Pioneers will play their first of two-straight games on CBS Sports Network this weekend as they make the trip back to the east coast to take on nationally-ranked Georgetown

DENVER – The [RV/RV] University of Denver men's lacrosse program wraps up a back-to-back week on the east coast stretch when the Pioneers travel to [13/13] Georgetown for a nationally televised game on Saturday at Cooper Field. Opening faceoff on CBS Sports Network is set for 3 p.m. ET/1 p.m. MT.

DI SERIES HISTORY:
Denver holds a 9-7 lead in the series, but the Hoyas have won seven out of the last 10 dating back to the 2018 BIG EAST Final. The Pioneers did win last year's meeting 10-8 at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium in a battle of top-seven teams. Denver's last win in the nation's capital came March of 2018, a 6-5 win for the Pios. FULL SERIES HISTORY

LAST TIME OUT:
The Pioneers had three different offensive players record hat tricks and Malcolm Kleban and the Denver defense held their third-consecutive opponent to single-digit goals in regulation in DU's 14-7 win at St. John's last week. FULL RECAP

ON THIS DATE
  • Denver is 3-0 in its Division I era on April 12, including a 2014 16-9 win over St. John's.
  • On April 12, 2003, Jeff Nunziato made 19 saves in a 15-8 win over Hobart, a mark that is still tied for the third-most saves in a game in the program's DI history.
DENVER AGAINST RANKED OPPONENTS
  • Denver is 79-93 in its DI history against teams in the USILA Top-20.
  • Denver is 32-27 at home against ranked opponents.
  • Denver's 2024 overtime win at Johns Hopkins and its March 20, 2022 win at No. 7 Ohio State are the program's two top-10 road wins since a trip to Notre Dame in 2020, the final game before the COVID-19 shutdown.
  • The Pioneers defeated No. 7 Duke in a neutral site match-up in Dallas on March 22.
WILSON'S BIG DAY ON THE GROUND AT ST. JOHN'S
  • SSDM Casey Wilson picked up a career-high seven ground balls in the Pios 14-7 win at St. John's on April 5.
  • Wilson's GB total was the most by a Denver student-athlete that wasn't a faceoff specialist since Jack Hannah picked up 7 vs. North Carolina on March 1, 2020.
  • The total was also the most by a defensive player since Matt Neufeldt picked up 9 in the 2019 BIG EAST Semifinals against Villanova.
DENVER'S MAN-UP D IN LAST TWO SEASONS
  • In 28 games since the start of the 2024 season, Denver has allowed just 10 man-up goals on opponents 62 opportunities for a man-down kill-percentage of 83.9%.
  • The total is the fewest man-down goals in the country since the start of last season.
  • Denver's penalty kill rate is also the highest in the country over that span.
  • In 2025 alone, Denver ranks fourth in man-up kill percentage at 82.8%.
KELLY'S HOT START TO THE SEASON
  • Through the opening 11 games of the 2025 season, senior midfielder Mic Kelly has scored a team-high 26 goals.
  • The only other Pioneer midfielder to score 18+ goals in the first seven games of the season came in 2013 when then-sophomore Wes Berg came out of the box to score 20 in his first seven games.
  • Nationally, Kelly has the third-highest goals per game in the country by midfielders, at 2.36 goals/game.
  • In 2020, midfielder Jack Hannah scored 17 goals through the first six games before COVID put an end to the 2020 campaign.
  • Kelly has a joint team-high five man-up goals this season, ranking fourth in the country in the category.
CALDWELL ON THE GROUND
  • Through the first 11 games of his redshirt sophomore campaign, Chris Caldwell has picked up 34 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers.
  • The 34 GBs is a team-high outside of primary faceoff taker Michael Kraus.
  • Caldwell is 14 ground balls away from cracking the single-season top-10 in program history for GBs among one of the three defensive field positions.
  • Caldwell has 5+ GBs in four different games this season.
DOUBLE DIGIT GOALS
  • Denver has scored double-digit goals 219 times since Matt Brown joined the staff full time in 2008. Denver is 184-35 in those games.
UP NEXT:
Denver will return home next Saturday for Senior Day when the Pioneers host Providence at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. The back-half of a men's and women's double header is set for 3 p.m. MT on CBS Sports Network and 104.3 The Fan HD3.
