DENVER – The University of Denver ski team had six student-athletes pick up eight All-American accolades during the 2025 NCAA Championships on March 5-8 in Lyme Center and Hanover, New Hampshire.
Senior alpine skier
Sara Rask was named a First Team All-American in both women's giant slalom and slalom after winning both races at the national championships. She was the first Pioneer to sweep collegiate nationals since Amelia Smart in 2018 and finished the year with 10 podiums and eight victories, including winning all seven slalom events.
Rask was named an All-American in all six career races that she has competed in at the NCAA Championships, including earning five first-team awards.
Alpine junior
Mia Hunt also picked up a pair of All-American accolades, as she earned two Second-Team honors after placing seventh in slalom and 10th in GS—the first national awards of her career.
Nordic graduate student
Lea Wenaas joined Rask on being named a First Team All-American by finishing fourth in the women's 20-kilometer freestyle. It was the highest placement by a DU women's Nordic skier since Eveliina Piippo won the 5K freestyle in 2020 and the best result in a distance mass start race since Linn Eriksen was third in the 15K freestyle in 2018.
Senior
Andreas Kirkeng of men's Nordic grabbed an All-American award for the fourth straight year with a seventh-place finish in the men's 20K freestyle.
Denver's men's alpine team also picked up two national honors at the NCAA Championships. Junior
Thomas Hoffman earned his second career award as a Second Team All-American in giant slalom after finishing ninth, and freshman
Pietro Motterlini joined his teammate with the same accolade after coming in 10th in the men's GS.
All-Americans are determined based on the skiers' finish at the NCAA National Championships (finishers 1-5 made the first team; finishers 6-10 made second team). The Pioneers' eight All-Americans were fourth-most in the nation this year.
The eight All-American awards bring Denver's total to 396 in program history, with 157 different student-athletes winning at least one during their time as a Pioneer.
As a team, DU placed fourth overall at the 2025 NCAA Championships. The Pios were fifth entering the final day but climbed past Vermont following a solid showing in the freestyle mass start races to land on the team podium.
